Myriad provider portal
Research, product design
How might we enable healthcare providers to easily administer and manage genetic tests?
Myriad is a genetics company that develops genetic tests to help healthcare providers assess risks of hereditary conditions and determine cancer treatment. I led the design for the provider portal experience.
The primary purpose of the portal was to enable doctors and their staff to order genetic tests and effectively communicate results to their patients in a timely manner. The challenge was that there were many moving parts in the process, and different medical facilities with various workflows would be using this same portal.
I conducted research through surveys, onsite and remote interviews, observing customer service calls, and talking with account reps. This research was used to feed our personas, journey maps, and characterization of new features. I also led a multi-day remote design workshop focused on better understanding the current pain points and brainstorming ideas for a new experience.
Based on learnings from the workshop, I developed designs for the ordering experience and built an initial prototype. This prototype was used to get teams across the company aligned with the new vision of the provider experience. We are also used the prototype to test ideas with potential users to collect feedback and improve the design. Ultimately providers were enthusiastic about the improvements to the experience.
